1.Are megapixels of a phone camera overrated?
2.Do more megapixels of a phone camera mean better image's quality?
3.Do iPhone producer keep this in mind therefore they produce phone with comparatively lower megapixels?

You will easily conclude about the questions given above if you read carefully:
First, understand what is megapixel:
The term 'mega' mean million, then megapixel mean a million pixel. A px (pixel) is the smallest portion of an image or display that a computer is capable of printing or displaying.
We can called it as one point of a picture.
To find pixel, do this step:
- Open 'paint' app in window
- Draw a line or anything
- Use magnifier tool to magnify the line you have drawn
- After you have reach the maximum limit of magnifying, look for square stuff
The square stuff is what we called as pixel.
You can find it anywhere, for example; magnify any picture to it maximum limit, you will find several pixels.
Use of Megapixel in cameras:
It is use to clarify image. More megapixels mean you can have clearer view of a picture even after magnifying it to some or more extent depending on the amount of megapixels a camera can produce.
Look at this picture which is captured by 12 megapixel phone camera. The quality or detail of this picture will gradually decrease if we maximise or magnify this picture.
Now you can conclude the fact that why more megapixels camera is required to capture picture for magazine, poster, etc.
More megapixel mean better camera?
There is no need of high megapixel for mobile camera. Though more megapixel is good for printing large picture, think of magazine which require greater size of image.
The higher the megapixel count on a camera sensor, the greater amount of detail that can be captured in a picture.
If you're going to sell your photos or make large prints and posters from your mobile pictures, then a phone camera with 12 megapixels or more will work well for you.
We mostly use our phone camera to post pictures on social media, so more megapixel is not needed.
Quality of picture on phone camera depend on several other factors such as:
- Camera sensor: 8 megapixel camera with sensor of f/1.8 is far better than 13 megapixel camera with f/3 sensor. Bigger sensor mean better quality of image will be produced.
- Image processing technology: If it can capture light in much noise.
- Back lens: Glass lens is better than plastic lens
Conclusion:
- Megapixel is overrated. It is used as a buzz marketing technique by top companies
- More megapixel do not necessarily mean better camera quality.
So what about iPhones?
Apple is smart. They intentionally use better sensor quality without giving much attention to its megapixel.
So that's why even most of the mid range camera are coming with 13mp camera and still their images are not comparable to the images taken by iPhone 6 which has only 8mp camera.
Nowadays, there are alot of Android phones which have now better sensor such as Huawei, Google Pixel, etc.
So yes, better megapixel alone is of no use.
Thank You.
